I've Spent 30 Years on the Other Side

THE JOURNEY FROM SKEPTIC TO BELIEVER

All my arguments against Christianity were based on false assumptions and incorrect information, specifically that faith in Christ and science were incompatible.

WHY I WROTE BEYOND CHANCE

Writing Beyond Chance has been more than an exploration of science. It has been a journey of faith, reason, and wonder.

My goal was not merely to argue that God exists, but to show that the world itself bears witness to His presence. The evidence for design, purpose, and intelligence surrounds us—from the birth of the cosmos to the intricacies of DNA, from the emergence of humankind to the resurrection of Christ.

The deeper I investigated science, the more I saw the face of God behind it.

Sharing that passion—especially with Christians who are intimidated by science—is part of the driving force behind the book.

THE MOMENT EVERYTHING CHANGED

When I Was Challenged to Examine the Evidence for Christianity, I Was Stunned

I didn't grow up doubting God—I grew up not thinking about Him at all. For three decades, I had dismissed Christianity without truly examining it. When someone finally challenged me to look at the actual evidence—not the caricatures I'd constructed in my mind—everything shifted.

For three decades, I had dismissed Christianity without truly examining it. When someone finally challenged me to look at the actual evidence—not the caricatures I'd constructed in my mind—everything shifted.

I discovered that:

My arguments against God were built on false assumptions.

I had believed:

  • Faith requires checking your brain at the door (It doesn't)

  • Science has disproven God (It hasn't)

  • Evolution explains everything (It can't)

  • The resurrection is a fairy tale (The evidence says otherwise)

Part of my journey to faith was learning that true faith is not the absence of evidence but the courage to follow it to its ultimate conclusion.

When we do, we discover that reason and revelation are not enemies but companions, pointing to the same truth—that we are the work of an intelligent and loving Creator.

WHO I AM TODAY

Steve R. Osborne, PhD

Credentials:

  • PhD in Experimental Psychology, Arizona State University

  • Published peer-reviewed research in the sciences

  • Former atheist turned Christian apologist

Currently: Retired and living in Northern California, where I enjoy:

  • Family life

  • The outdoors

  • Writing

  • Helping others think clearly about the biggest questions of existence

Mission: My passion is Christian apologetics—showing how faith and science point to the same Creator. I write for everyday believers who want to deepen their faith by understanding how science and Scripture complement one another, and for seekers who are curious about the reasonableness of belief in God.

My goal is not only to provide evidence for Christianity but also to show how the gospel brings ultimate meaning, purpose, and hope.

MY APPROACH

Why My Perspective Is Different

1. I've Been Where Skeptics Are

I'm not defending beliefs I inherited. I spent 30 years on the other side. I know what it's like to think Christianity is intellectually inferior. I understand the objections because I used to make them.

2. I Respect Both Science and Scripture

I don't ask anyone to choose between faith and reason. I show how they work together. No false dichotomies. No intellectual shortcuts.

3. I Write for Real People

You don't need a PhD to understand this book. I translate complex science into clear, compelling prose that respects your intelligence without overwhelming you.

4. I'm Gospel-Centered

The point isn't just winning arguments. It's revealing the God who speaks through both creation and Scripture—and who offers hope through Jesus Christ.
